Hey Coloradans! Do you love meat raised without antibiotics? We do! Come out this Valentine’s Day and help us show the love. Together we’ll ask the three new Trader Joe’s stores in the Boulder/Denver area to stop selling meat raised on antibiotics. Our Meat Without Drugs campaign is working to convince grocery stores – starting with Trader Joe’s – to stop selling meat from animals routinely fed antibiotics.
The CDC and most public health experts agree that the overuse of antibiotics on healthy livestock threatens public health by promoting the spread of drug resistant superbugs — and 80 percent of all antibiotics sold in the United States are used not on humans but on animals. These antibiotics are fed to healthy animals like cows, pigs, and chickens to make them grow faster and to prevent disease in often crowded and unsanitary conditions on today’s industrial farms.
Trader Joe’s can take a stand for public health and be an industry leader by choosing not to source their meat from animals routinely fed antibiotics. Want to know more about the campaign and what’s going on in your neighborhood?
Here’s what you can do to get involved!
- DENVER: Come “Meat and Greet” with us on Wednesday, February 12 at 7:00 pm at Udi’s (2550 E. Colfax Ave.) in Denver for a campaign open house with CU staff and other local folks that want meat without drugs! Tasty snacks are on us (for all dietary needs)! RSVP here.
- BOULDER: Same as above, but for Boulder folks! Join us at Shine Gathering Place (2027 13th St) at 7:00 pm on Thursday, February 13. Let us know if you’re coming!
- Sign the petition asking Trader Joe’s CEO Dan Bane to stop selling meat raised on antibiotics, and then….
- Help us deliver the petition signatures! We’ll be hand-delivering them to the new Trader Joe’s stores when they open on Friday, February 14 in both cities:
Denver: Friday, February 14 at 9:00 am at 750 N. Colorado Blvd.
Boulder: Friday, February 14 at 2:00 pm at 1906 28th Street
